Detailed Itinerary: 6 Days Uganda Primates Safari

Day 1: Pick-Up and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Your guide will pick you up from Entebbe and welcome you to the safari. After a short briefing, you will begin the drive to Kibale National Park in western Uganda, a journey of roughly five to six hours. Along the way, you will stop for lunch and enjoy stunning scenery, landscapes, and tea plantations.

Upon arrival at Kibale, check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Chimpanzee Forest Guest House.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking, Bigodi Swamp Walk

After an early breakfast, you will be driven to the Kanyanchu Visitor Centre for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking. Once briefed, you will be allocated a chimpanzee family to track, along with a park guide well versed in the forest’s trails.

Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale takes anywhere from thirty minutes to four hours, depending on the group’s location, since they move frequently in search of food. Once located, you will spend an hour in their company, learning about their lifestyle and behaviour, watching the juveniles play in the trees, and taking photos and video without flash. Afterward, trek back to the park headquarters to meet your driver-guide and return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, enjoy an engaging nature walk through the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, taking in a variety of primates, birds, mammals, and plant life. After the walk, drive back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge, and meet your driver-guide for the transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will have lunch along the way before continuing on to Bwindi, where you will check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Ichumbi Lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Gorilla

After an early breakfast at your lodge, your guide will drive you to the park headquarters for a briefing on your gorilla trek. Once briefed, you will head into the forest in groups in search of the gorillas in their natural habitat.

Once you find the gorillas, you will spend an hour in their company, taking photos and observing their behaviour, before returning to the briefing point to meet your guide.

You will then transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, check in at your lodge, and relax while you wait for dinner and an overnight stay at Mount Gahinga Lodge.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking Experience

Wake up to an early breakfast at your lodge before your guide drives you to the briefing point. You will be briefed at the park headquarters about the activity and given further details about the golden monkeys.

The activity takes roughly two to five hours in the monkeys’ natural habitat, hiking through steep, densely forested hills in search of them. Once found, you will spend about an hour in their company. Return to the lodge afterward and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay, as above.

Day 6: Departure

After an early breakfast at the lodge, check out and transfer to Kampala, with stops along the way for lunch and rest. You will be dropped off at the airport, or at your hotel of stay in Kampala or Entebbe, bringing your 6 Days Uganda Primates Safari to an end.
