3 Days Lake Mburo National Park Safari

3 Days Lake Mburo National Park Safari

3 Days Lake Mburo National Park Safari; Lake Mburo has earned its nickname, “Whispers of the Wild,” honestly. It’s one of Uganda’s most serene national parks, home to the largest zebra herds found anywhere in the country’s protected area network, and the only park where you can genuinely ride on horseback among the wildlife rather than simply observing from a vehicle. Bush biking and walking safaris round out a genuinely varied activity list well beyond the standard game drive, making Lake Mburo one of the most flexible, low-key parks in Uganda for travelers wanting real proximity to wildlife at a gentler pace.

This three-day itinerary combines a cultural stop in Mbarara city with a full day immersed in the park itself, walking safaris, game drives, and a boat cruise on the lake, before an easy return north to Kampala.

Day 1: Mbarara City and Transfer to Lake Mburo

Your guide picks you up in the morning for the drive to Mbarara city, where the day opens with a tour of the town itself, the Igongo Cultural Centre, the Eclipse Monument, and other stops your guide will suggest along the way, before dinner and an overnight stay at a hotel in Mbarara.

The following morning, continue on to Lake Mburo, arriving mid-morning. After checking in to your lodge and settling in over lunch, head out on a walking safari, a genuinely different way to experience the bush, moving through the landscape on foot rather than by vehicle, with real chances of encountering zebra, impala, and elephant along the trail. Return to the lodge for the evening. Accommodation for this stretch of the trip runs from Eagle’s Nest Lodge (budget) through Rwakobo Rock (mid-range) to Mihingo Lodge (luxury), depending on your preference.

Day 2: Full Day in Lake Mburo National Park

Game Drive

After an early breakfast, head into Lake Mburo National Park itself, the smallest of Uganda’s savanna parks, its terrain shaped by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rock dating back more than 500 million years. An early-morning game drive rewards the earliest risers, and on a good day, lion and leopard are among the possible sightings alongside the park’s more reliably seen zebra, impala, and buffalo. Keep your camera close throughout, since Lake Mburo’s open terrain offers some of the clearest wildlife photography conditions in the country.

After lunch back at the lodge, spend the afternoon on a boat trip across the lake, a relaxed way to encounter hippo, crocodile, and the rich birdlife gathered along the shoreline. Return in the evening to freshen up before dinner at your hotel.

Day 3: Return to Kampala

After breakfast, depart Mbarara and begin the drive back to Kampala, with lunch along the way at your own arrangement. On arrival in the city, your driver will drop you at a location of your choosing.
