4 Days Bwindi and Lake Mburo National Park Safari

4 Days Bwindi and Lake Mburo National Park Safari

4 Days Bwindi and Lake Mburo National Park Safari; Few itineraries deliver as much contrast in as short a time as this one. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, true to its name, is Uganda’s densest, most ancient rainforest, home to roughly half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.

Lake Mburo, by contrast, is open acacia savanna and shimmering water, the smallest of Uganda’s savanna parks and home to the country’s largest zebra herds. This four-day route links the two directly, a full gorilla trekking day followed by open-plains game viewing and a boat cruise, giving travelers a genuinely complete cross-section of southwestern Uganda within a single trip.

The journey covers roughly 540 kilometres from Kampala to Bwindi by road, with the return leg routed back through Lake Mburo rather than retracing the same path, making efficient use of the distance covered.

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Gorilla

Whether you’re arriving at Entebbe Airport in the early morning or setting off from elsewhere in Kampala or Entebbe, your guide collects you for the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda’s far southwest, roughly 540 kilometres by road. You’ll stop at the Equator for photographs along the way, and again in Mbarara town for lunch, before continuing on to Bwindi, arriving in the evening. Dinner and an overnight stay at Ruhija Community Rest Camp Lodge for budget travelers.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for a briefing from your ranger guides before setting off into the forest. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi takes anywhere from two to eight hours depending on where the gorillas happen to be that day, since these primates roam freely and their exact location can’t be predicted in advance.

Once you find them, you’ll spend a genuine hour in their company, observing and photographing the family before heading back out with your packed lunch. Meet your driver-guide and transfer back to your lodge to check out, then continue on to Lake Mburo National Park, arriving in the late afternoon. Check in for dinner and an overnight stay at Eagle’s Nest Lodge for budget travelers.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Boat Cruise on Lake Mburo

After breakfast, head into the park for a morning game drive, the best window for spotting the resident wildlife at its most active, with genuine chances of lion alongside the more reliably seen zebra, waterbuck, impala, and giraffe. Return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, take to the water for a boat trip across Lake Mburo, a relaxed opportunity to spot a wide variety of birdlife, hippo, and other wildlife gathered along the shoreline. Return in the evening to freshen up before dinner at the lodge.

Day 4: Walking Safari, Transfer Back to Kampala

After breakfast, head out on a walking safari, a genuinely different way to experience the bush, moving through the landscape on foot rather than by vehicle, with real chances of encountering zebra, impala, and giraffe along the trail. Afterward, drive out of the park and begin the journey back to Kampala, with a stop for lunch and a further stop at the Equator along the way. On arrival in Kampala or Entebbe, you’ll be dropped at a location of your choosing, or taken directly to the airport for an onward flight, bringing the safari to a close.
