5 Days Rwanda Safari

5 Days Rwanda Safari

This 5 Days Rwanda Safari takes you to some of the country’s most sought-after destinations in a remarkably short space of time, giving you the chance to take part in some of Rwanda’s top activities. Among the highlights are gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe National Park, and a canopy walk, also in Nyungwe.

Nyungwe National Park is a genuine primate capital, home to around thirteen species, including golden monkey, Angola colobus, black-and-white colobus, and chimpanzee, among others. Chimpanzee trekking and the canopy walk are two of the park’s biggest draws, and both feature on this 5 Days Rwanda Safari. Volcanoes National Park, meanwhile, is one of the country’s most popular destinations, famous above all for gorilla trekking.

Day 1: Pick-Up from Kigali, Transfer to Nyungwe National Park

Our Rwanda safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali, or from the airport upon arrival. After a briefing on your five-day tour, you will enjoy a two-hour Kigali city tour, visiting the Genocide Memorial site, the city markets, and the former Presidential Palace Museum.

You will then transfer to Nyungwe National Park, roughly five hours by road, driving through scenic communities with a number of stops along the way, including for lunch. Continue to your lodge to check in and relax while you wait for dinner and an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Gisakura Guest House (Budget) / Nyungwe Top View Hotel (Mid-Range) / Nyungwe Forest Lodge (Luxury)

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe National Park

Wake up to a very early breakfast at the lodge and head to the briefing point for your chimpanzee tracking adventure. Tracking can take anywhere from two to six hours in the company of experienced guides and rangers. Look out for other wildlife in Nyungwe National Park along the way.

After lunch, embark on the canopy walk, taking in a bird’s-eye view of the park and spotting more of its wildlife from above. Return to the lodge afterward to relax while you wait for dinner and an overnight stay, as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park, Gorilla Guardians Visit

Wake up to an early breakfast at the lodge, then head to the Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing ahead of your gorilla trekking adventure. Once briefed, you will be allocated a gorilla family, in groups of eight. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park takes roughly two to six hours, and once found, you will spend an hour observing the gorillas, watching them play, feed, groom, and much more.

Return to your lodge for lunch. Afterward, visit the Gorilla Guardians, former poachers who have become dedicated protectors of the gorillas and the park’s wider wildlife. Enjoy traditional dance performances, and join in if you’d like. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay, as above.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking, Departure

Wake up to an early breakfast at the lodge and, much like gorilla trekking, set off in search of golden monkeys. These playful primates are known to come remarkably close, sometimes even engaging with cameras directly. After spending an hour in their company, return to the lodge to check out and enjoy lunch.

Afterward, transfer back to Kigali, a journey of two to three hours, with a drop-off at the airport for your flight, or at your hotel of stay in Kigali, bringing your 5 Days Rwanda Safari to an end.
