3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

This 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari is one of the most rewarding Rwanda tours you can book for an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience. The trip starts and ends in Kigali. A Rwanda gorilla permit costs US$1,500 per person and grants access to the forests of Volcanoes National Park, home to around 400 mountain gorillas across eleven habituated families that travelers can visit on gorilla trekking safaris.

Beyond gorilla trekking, this 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari also includes a Kigali city tour, a visit to the Twin Lakes, and a community walk.

Detailed Itinerary: 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: Pick-Up in Kigali, Transfer to Volcanoes

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, your driver-guide will pick you up and welcome you to Rwanda. He will brief you on your 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari before transferring you to Volcanoes National Park, roughly 80 kilometres from Kigali and about a two-hour drive.

Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a Kigali city tour, visiting the National Museum and the Genocide Memorial Centre, before transferring to Volcanoes National Park.

Check in at your lodge and relax while you wait for dinner and an overnight stay.

Accommodation: Muhabura Hotel (Budget) / De Vinci Gorilla Lodge (Mid-Range) / Five Volcanoes Lodge (Luxury)

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park, Twin Lakes Visit / Community Walk

Enjoy an early breakfast at the lodge, then head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing on gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Afterward, set off on this exciting adventure, hiking through bamboo and thicket in search of the gentle giants of the forest.

Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park takes anywhere from one to five hours or more, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you will spend an hour in their company, watching them play, protect one another, feed, and groom. Along the way, you will likely see other primates, including golden monkeys, as well as birds and other wildlife such as buffalo and forest elephants.

After your hour with the gorillas, you will return to the starting point to meet your guide for the transfer back to your lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you can explore the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo or join a community walk for a traditional dance experience. Alternatively, simply relax at the lodge after your trek.

Dinner and an overnight stay, as above.

Day 3: Departure

Wake up to a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, then check out and transfer to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, you may have the chance to shop for souvenirs and visit the pottery project and the Franco-Rwandan Cultural Centre, with lunch in between activities. You will be dropped off at the airport for your flight or at your hotel of stay in Kigali, bringing your 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari to an end.
