This safari takes you to the ultimate wildlife viewing destination in Africa, Masai Mara National reserve in Kenya. This area is known for hosting the annual wildebeest migration together with zebras and gazelles. Also, the big five animals, big cats and hundreds of bird species spotted while here.

Trek to the highest peak in Africa (Uhuru Peak) standing at 5,895m as you hike Mt Kilimanjaro National Park for seven days. There is a lot to see such as snow, unique plants, valleys, Crater lakes, primates and birdlife while hiking.

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Transfer to Machame gate from Moshi / Arusha and hike to Machame camp

Our driver guide will find you at any agreed point in either Moshi town or Arusha and drive to Mount Kilimanjaro park gate (Machame gate). Here attend briefing and acquire all the required materials you need to use while on the trek.

Immediately, start the hike with the trekking crew as you pass through the forest with primates such as red-tailed monkeys, red colobus monkeys, varvet monkeys and many more others. Arrive and head to Machame camp for dinner.

Day 2: Hike to Shira camp

Walk for 5 kilometers from Machame camp to Shira camp after a leisurely breakfast in the mountains through the moorland vegetation. Pass through the rocky ridges of Shira plateau where you get a beautiful view of the western breach with a standing scenery of glaciers. Have lunch at the camp with leisure as you face the cold temperatures during night time.

Day 3: Trek to Barranco camp

This is one of the toughest days when you encounter the lava tower before heading to Barranco. This time, we will head to the semi-desert leaving the moorland vegetation behind. Explore the great Barranco wall where you encounter challenges and then to Barranco camp standing at 3900m above sea level for dinner and night.

Day 4: Barranco to Karanga camp

Breakfast will be served in the morning and then transfer to Karanga camp as you penetrate the Barranco Great Wall. The hike takes about 5 to 6 hours as you enjoy the glaciers, vegetation and valleys plus other crater lakes. Arrive and have a leisurely lunch as you prepare for the next day’s adventure to Barafu camp.

Day 5: Transfer to Barafu camp

Wake up in the morning with a main target of reaching the Barafu camp. This camp gets its name from the local Swahili word Barafu meaning ice. This area is characterized by alpine desert as the hike takes about 5 hours. Arrive and explore either Kibo Peak or Mawenzi Peak for great scenery.

Day 6: Hike to Uhuru Peak and descend back to Mweka camp

Wake up as early as 200hrs with the aim of conquering the summit that is Uhuru Peak. You will be helped by the headlamp torch and ropes. You are advised to pack heavy clothing since the higher you will go, the cooler it will become. The hike will take about 8 hours and on arriving at the summit, take photos and then plan to head back. Descend to Mweka camp for your last night.

Day 7: Descent to Mweka gate, drive to Arusha and fly to Serengeti National Park (northern sector) or Migori

Descend further to Mweka gate as you pass through the forest immediately after breakfast. Arrive at Mweka gate and return all the hired materials, attend a de-briefing session and then meet your driver guide to drive you to Arusha airport for a flight to Serengeti or Migori depending on your schedule and meet another drive who will take you to the booked hotel for overnight stay.

Day 8: Drive to Masai Mara and game drive in the evening

Wake up on breakfast and then embark on a 3 hours’ drive to Masai Mara National Reserve, a home to the big five animals and also hosts the annual wildebeest migration. You will have a stopover at the boarder point to clear with immigration. Proceed and arrive in the Masai Mara for evening game drive after lunch where you expect to meet animals like lions, elephants, buffalos, gazelles, warthogs, monkeys, cheetahs, leopards, water bucks, kudu, zebras, gerenuk, and many others.

The birds, vegetation cover, water-loving animals like crocodiles, hippos and more won’t be missed. Head back to the lodge and this will be the end of the day.

Day 9: Full-day game drive

Take a full day exploring the beautiful plains as you take part in game drives. This includes having a great time of picnic lunch, bush breakfast and sunrise moments. You have an option of visiting the Masai community and learning about their culture through music and dances, exploring their dress code and many more others.

Animals that will be spotted while on the game drive include such as lions, spotted hyenas, wild dogs, warthogs, elands, elephants, buffalo, wildebeests, cheetahs, giraffes, and zebras. Head back to the lodge for dinner.

Day 10: Transfer to Nairobi and fly home

The driver guide will load your luggage in the vehicle and immediately drive to Nairobi. You will be dropped at the airport upon arrival and this marks the end of the 10 days’ safari.
