Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 – Pick up and transfer to Akagera National Park – short game drive and boat safari.
Be picked by an assigned expert driver guide from Kigali and immediately head to Akagera National Park after a briefing about this amazing safari. Akagera National Park gets its name from the Akagera River which is one of the sources of water for wildlife in this park located on the border of Rwanda and Tanzania.
Arrive and head for a short game drive while heading for an evening boat cruise on Ihema Lake. Expect to meet animals like giraffes, elephants, lions, leopards, kudus, wildebeests, warthogs, hippos, crocodiles and many more.
Day 2 – Morning game drive and afternoon at leisure.
Have a morning game drive where you expect to meet early raisers such as spotted hyenas, lions, leopards, cheetahs and more. However, animals like elephants, rhinos, warthogs, jackals, impalas, kudu, giraffes, zebras won’t be missed while taking part in this game drive. The experience will last for 3 hours in the savannahs stretching your eye to the border of Tanzania and Rwanda. After lunch, enjoy leisure at the lodge.
Day 3 – Game drive and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Have another morning game drive in the park plains with a chance of spotting missed and more wildlife such as elephants, lions, hippos, leopards, waterbucks, impalas, jackals, rhinos and more. Capture great moments and then transfer to Volcanoes National Park. This is one of a few conservation areas where to find the endangered mountain gorillas. Arrive and head to the booked lodge.
Day 4 – Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park. Cultural tour in the evening.
Head for a memorable experience that is gorilla trekking after breakfast. The experience begins with a briefing where guidelines are well speculated such as keeping a distance is a must, don’t feed wild animals, keeping quiet while trekking and more. Have the requirements such as drinking water, energy-giving snacks and among others.
Begin the search with the guidance of the park ranger guide well-armed to offer you protection and on meeting a family of gorillas, spend an hour in their presence learning about their behaviors. Members of the family will be playing, breastfeeding, and searching for food, the Silverback will be protecting the group and others. This will last for an hour watching and following them but the overall experience can last 4 to 6 hours.
After lunch, encounter the Iby’iwacu cultural community also known as the gorilla guardian village. This place is amazing as you learn through entertainment like music, dance and drama, Cultural cooking classes, storytelling and many more others. Then return to the lodge for dinner.
Day 5 – Transfer back to Kigali
Leave for Kigali passing through the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo and if time allows you can take a canoe ride. Arrive in Kigali and be dropped at the airport to mark the end of the safari.
