This 3 days Bwindi gorilla trekking safari is one of the most rewarding activities which you are not supposed to miss out during a Uganda safari. These mountain gorillas in Uganda are found in Bwindi and Mgahinga National Parks and they are the closest relatives of man sharing 95-99% of their DNA with man after chimpanzees and bonobos.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the southwestern part of Uganda taking a 6-7 hours’ drive from Kampala city. The park is known for having over 19 habituated gorilla families making it the first national park with the highest number of habituated gorilla families in East Africa.
Detailed itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable National Park
Immediately after arriving at the airport, you will be welcomed by your driver guide who will first take you through a short briefing about the safari, and later begin the drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park where you will drive for 6-7 hours. Upon reaching the park, you will have a stopover in Mbarara city to enjoy lunch, snacks and other refreshments. Proceed with your journey to the park arriving late in the evening for overnight and rest.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
This is the day you have been dreaming of; start it with morning breakfast after which you will drive towards the park for gorilla trekking. This activity takes a duration of 2-8 hours depending on how long these animals moved. Be given a permit that allows you to enter the park and after you will drive back to the starting point.
At this point, you will meet a ranger guide who takes you through a quick briefing about the activity, set off for trekking and as soon as you reach a gorilla family you will be given an hour in their presence. During this time, you have a chance to take photos of these primates eating, jumping from one tree to another, grooming, and how they play with the young ones. After the activity move back to the main office and be awarded with a trekking certificate, drive back to your lodge and be served a delicious meal as did the previous days.
Day 3: Depart back home.
Enjoy morning breakfast on this last day of your safari and after, drive back to Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda. Later drive to Entebbe International Airport for a flight back home.
