Detailed 3 Days Rwanda Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Hotel pick-up, city excursions and drive to Volcanoes National Park
The first day of this short trip is the day you will always remember because it marks the beginning of unforgettable memories. Have breakfast and wait for pick-up by your safari driver to undertake a tour of Kigali City.
This tour lasts 2-4 hours and involves exploring the City’s top historical and cultural sites such as the genocide Memorial sites to understand about the painful genocide history that shaped the country, Craft markets where collection of handcrafts from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya and D.R. Congo can be purchased and local markets.
Later head for Lunch within any of the top City restaurants and drive to Musanze district, in the North-west of the country. This is where you will spend your next 2 nights and on arrival be treated to a warm welcome, cold bathe, dinner, relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and breathtaking cultural encounters at Gorilla Guardian Village
Breakfast at the lodge and be driven to Kinigi park headquarters where you will go through the pre-tracking registration and briefing by Park Officials. This will be on the gorilla trek you are about to undertake, the trekking guidelines and later be allocated to one of the habituated gorilla groups. The search for mountain gorillas in the forest begins at 8am and trekking time is unpredictable but takes between one and five hours, depending on the movement/or location of the mountain gorillas on the particular day.
Location of the mountain gorillas also depends on the availability of food (abundance of food in the rainy season means they don’t move far from forest tracks), temperatures and location of nests on the previous day). After successfully trekking and finding the mountain gorillas, you will stay in their presence for one hour and retreat to the lodge for Lunch.
Relax after your hefty Lunch and in the evening visit the Gorilla Guardian Village for drumming lessons and dance performances by Intore Dance Troupe, have a taste of Rwanda local cuisines, visit to traditional herbalists and beer brewing lessons among others. Overnight stay and dinner at the same Lodge as the previous day.
Day 3: Half day Golden Monkey Tracking adventure and drive back to Kigali City
Have a fantastic day in the dense jungles of Volcanoes National Park. Start with breakfast at the lodge and set off for Kinigi Park Headquarters for briefing. Under the company of armed Park rangers, porters and fellow trekkers head to forest to find any of the habituated golden monkey troops.
This trek lasts anywhere between 1 and 3 hours after which you return to the lodge for lunch. Pack your stuff and check-out of the lodge for a drive back to Kigali City. This marks the end of your 3 days Gorilla & Golden Monkey Trek in Rwanda.
